$1200 per cube for 'select' sawn boards seems cheap mate. If you had to do a heap of work and grade harshly, $1,200 seems a bit low?? What was the order for, if you don't mind?

I see your cable tie set-up with the dpeth of cut measure on the end frame and understand where you're coming from, but I find the top of the endframe just can't move ever - and it helps being tall enough to see the digits clearly. Some tailers I've had have needed a milk crate to see the scale at the top of the end frames

sigidi, $1200 a cube wholesale for green RSHWD 125 X 125s through to 50 X 25s is going pretty good for around here. I debark with the dozer as soon as possible after falling and then wash every log before milling. The order is for a external day bed with shingle roof, all timber will be dressed. The advantage of the ties is that you can have them at eye level which is good while sitting on the rails & adjusting the height while the carriage is at the other end trying to lift the rail

Any reason for barking and washing prior to milling?

Is that retail or wholesale prices, if I were to charge that amount for my timber here it would rot away before I sold it. It all comes down to supply & demand in the end, I did a job for a builder the other week & he can get treated pine from a big local mill for $350 a cube at the gate, so thats what we have to compete with here.
The deep fiberous bark carries a lot of dirt & small stones from snigging & if I dont bark them I chip the corners off the tips or worse than that a whole tip or tips go, have to sharpen less & retip less, washing shows up the embeded stones and just makes the log cleaner so yor not cutting dirt or dust which will blunten the tips

Pine - yeah, I don't even consider competing with pine. The pine guys must have so little margin in it...

Barking - yup. Ironbarks are a bugger too, for customers I inform them of the problems with draggin the logs around and the added cost it could potentially cause. but at home I don;t have any options, so I just wear the cost of replacements when they need it. Having said that it is surprising how well they cut with 1 good tooth and the corners broken off the other 5 teeth

why dont you just bark them allan?

i think the only way the mills can produce the pine so cheep is teh fact that its all automated and done in sutch bulk.

logs go in one end and timber comes out the other.

Nephew works for Hynes at Tumbarumba thier pine line is running at 400km/hour.Dont get in the way if there is a wayward log.

Phoenix - what a cool name. We have just named a Cria Phoenix!! anyway, if the line is running at 400kph and they make 1% profit per metre on the pine, then by the end of the day they have made a good profit hey.

Carl, I leave my logs too long before cutting them, Ironbark is a mother if you don't do it when you drop it, isn't it? I tedn to leave them as logs until they are needed for timber. I don't have the log resource or space to cut a heap of logs into sizes I think someone will want. If I can ever get a model 8 then maybe I can cut 8x2's and 6x2's leave them stacked at home as they are common, useful sizes, ahhhhh... one day I'll have a property of 30ha to play with and no-one to bother me, Just Larry, Harry, the tree's and me.... one day........
