Consider these as well http://www.pantherpros.com/index.html
You pay to ship them from the US (about $140 Aus) but I landed a 40 inch mill for under $300.

Thanks for the feedback. Quite a few options now.
It seems I should buy a chainsaw that is suited to the bar. I don't have one currently as my needs have been serviced by a huge Japanese Ryoba! Hard work though!
Chainsaws are fearsome, both in noise and cost. Will save the loot and get a good one, but that's another discussion entirely!
It does look like fun though. I suspect, as others have pointed out, that I'll get a bit wrapped up in it
Maybe I can find someone who will loan me one

possible option
Went to the Melbourne show yesterday, and there was a stall with a fella selling Alaska mills. I explained my needs and gave him the size of my chainsaw and he recommended a mill. He was very friendly and knew his product.
On top of that he is a local vic boy (not that it helps you) but when I got home and checked their website they would happily ship, and there are great videos and instructions for their products.
Haven't used the mill yet, but thought you may wish to check them out.

Anyhoo, hope this helps
Cheers
Gab
P.s. I got the small log mill (one day I may have access to serious lumber, but not yet)

Alaskan Mill
I have used Alaskan Mills for over 20 years now. Once you get used to sharpening your chain correctly, it really produces the goods. I have my last mill and a 4 foot oregon blade and 404 chains to suit for sale now if anyone is interested. Was fitted to Stihl 090. Saws have gone.
