Default anchor small logs for cutting slices?

G'day members, couple of questions on slicing and slabbing logs using the home made horizontal bandsaw l brought, l don't want to re-invent the wheel if there is a easy way that someone uses already.

Q1. How does one anchor a small log to cut slices 35-45mm thick off a log 500x500mm, l thought of cutting some timber 50mm high almost "U" shaped (like a keel) and having 2 "endless thread bolts" for tightening, perhaps on a 15mm ply base

Q2. Logs - how to secure the log when getting close to the bottom of the cut/log, l thought just flip it over?

Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Small tip if anyone wants to build their own - DON'T use steel cable (coated would be great) as l went to raise the motor assembly and the cable broke, lucky the safety bolt was in place, have to get some seat belt webbing.

The guy that made it used 2 boat winches, either end of the motor assembly.

    Stevo

Have a look in these threads for some ideas

A really simple way is to trek screw the log to a wide board and clamp that to a couple of saw horses.

On this large BS mill the bed cross rails have 1/2" thick steel tables welded to them and the log is flipped so that the sides butt up against the tabs and the log is pushed up against the tabs using dedicated clamps

Thanks Bob, geez you should be on "the inventors", well thought out.

Gives me a start, l like the portability of the unit.

Thanks again, saves me a lot of brain storming.

    Cheers
