Default Attn: Bob L Re Chain Saw Service

    Hi Bob and others
As promised here is an update of the surgery my mate and I did on 2 Baumr Ag 62cc saws.
We pulled out and cleaned the filter in the tank on the suction line to the carbi.Put one back together and... ran very well, and stopped and was started easy. But the other one.....would not start. we swapped carbis and the first one went as good as it had with its original carbi, so its not the carbi. We have spark. When we pulled the feed line off the carbi the second saw had pressure in that line after a number of pulls trying to start it.(the first saw did not have this build up of pressure. There is another line going off the carbi which we suspect is the vent to the tank but this line is clear of any obstruction
So for half a days work trying to get 2 saws to go we only have one that will start and run like it should. By the way we changed the spark plugs in both while we were at it
To sum up...the fuel tanks are clean, the fuel filters are clean, the fuel lines are clear, the carbis are clean and operating properly, We have a good spark BUT we only have one that will go
    Signed... Stumped
    What could the problem be?
    Just do it!

    Kind regards Rod

The next thing I would suggest is a crank case pressure test.

If you look hard I heard you can sometimes see the green tips growing out of the exhaust

The second line from the carb is the impulse pipe, which operates the diaphragm pump by transmitting pulses from varying crankcase pressure. If this is leaking, or is blocked (perhaps in the crankcase) then the carb will not pump fuel. Does the saw fire and then die if you put a few drops of fuel in the inlet (which would indicate this may be the problem)? If you disconnect the impulse line at the carb and turn the engine over can you feel any pulses from it?

    Cheers

    Si

Rod, it'd be frustrating to have one working and the other not and have done just about everything to both of them. It'd be the kind of thing regardless of what it cost I'd wanna find out why if the saw was some expensive big brand one or some cheaper no name saw - just frustrating
I love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!
