My mate used to work in the forestry and used this saw all day every day so no wonder I guess.

I'm finding more and more technicians (idioticians in my book) these days aren't interested in major repairs. And try to sell a new product It'll probably only cost 200 or so for a new piston and rings. Well worth doin' up even if it needs a new cylinder aswell.

Have a 880 with 30 inch bar you can have a look at if you like. strapped to a granberg mk 3 at present, did a good Kauri log recently for practice but not sure my back would enjoy a large hardwood eucalypt. I'm down Lakes Ck way, like messing with logs but not much of carpenter once they're cut up. You'll find me in the yellow pages if you need to. Not sure on permissions here as yet, only just joined. Useful site.

    Hi Old1955

thanks for the welcome, like the site heaps of information, quality discussion and useful feedback.

I rebuilt my 880 a while ago, a tank of straight unleaded scoured the bore something wicked. The unlucky one asked me a fortnight late what was the difference between my green and red fuel cans!! Now the 880 is hidden, deep in the shed where good help would never look.

A Diesel fitter mate helped me fit a new cylinder head, new piston, bed the rings etc and modify the muffler mount because it was an older style assembly on a new style 880. Seems harder to find the OEM parts on line now for the 880.

Looking forward to the result when Bit dissapointed gets the 090 sorted. RM

Pull it down , check the big end for play and if it all seems ok get onto EBay where i'm sure you will find what you need. If you have no real experience with small engine repairs
I reckon a "clapped out" chainsaw is a good place to gain some . By the way , if you need help it's not just small engine mechanics who understand 2 stroke motors , most blokes who
had a misspent youth riding dirt bikes could pull it down, replace the parts and reassemble it in about the same time as it takes to get him a beer out of the fridge.

couple of ebay sites with all you need for a new saw

Appreciate the advice and the websites.
Still very keen to get this saw up and rung to see what it can do.
