Dropped this fellow this morning(Acacia melanoxylon)...it measures (the Butt) 1.8m long and around 88cm wide at the base spreading to around 1.2m at the end...the tree produced around 16m of sawlog all up,and was dead standing in the paddock..the colour is going to be very interesting ...more to drop tomorrow, more pics then..MM

They generally don't burrow too deep Rustynail, just below the sap line..that's where the swingblade is handy, can always cut around the holes...always recover a bit less volume with the dead ones, but still worthwhile .. MM

Was approached by a neighbour a few weeks ago,who wanted all the Blackwood on his property removed so that he could commence wide scale plantings (most of the Blackwood are dying or dead, and dropping limbs) without the fear of the young trees getting damaged.Ugly butt log,but they are the ones that produce something special...be dropping some more ugly ones today MM

Can't wait to see the picks of what you get out of it. Looks like some amazing colour. Is that Pink I see? Never seen that in Blackwood before. I think I'm Jelous.
PS don't forget to wear a dust mask if there's no wind. Nasty stuff!

Not here they dont. Its straight in, turn right and dont stop till you see leaves. When the tree is dead standing, it usually means the grubs have done their worst. There's not a lot of blackwood left around here now, so maybe the grubs work a bit more thoroughly.
