    Default Blackwood Trees

Peter (STAR) had a Blackwood half come down in a storm the other day, and asked me to help out with my big chainsaw, as the trunk was >0.8m. I thought, hmm blackwood, I have heaps already but the club could have used some and I was willing to help out.

When I got there I found half the tree had come down, this and the other standing half were full of termites and not much usefull timber. So I dropped the other half and there was a few branches of useable timber, but not much. Looking around he also had another standing dead tree that was also under attack by termites, but I was hopeful this one wouldn't be so bad. Down it came, with a few complications I won't go into , lets just say I am not a tree lopper and it didn't go to plan .

To cut a long story short, this tree was worse, it was completely full of borers and termites. After quite a few hours work cutting and moving I could have got a couple of platter and pen blanks, but after chopping down the trees and slicing them all into man handling lengths, I couldn't be bothered. It was also getting close to beer o'clock.

Into a big pile the pieces went and with a few matches the photo tells the story Sorry, just a phone photo, but it shows about 2 cubes well alight that should burn most of the night .

    Cheers
    Neil

I would have loved to stay and sit in front of the fire , but the mossies were fierce and I had to get home. The blurry bits are the flames, not sure why a phone camera can't take a decent photo of a fire, but I guess it is just a cheap add on
