Blade storage
I have a few blades for the mill and am thinking of a blade storage thingo to hold them, so they are in good condition and protected when not in use.
I normally have a minimum of two at the saw doctors, so would look at making a smaller version to drop my blades off at the docs.
The Lucas blade cases, I like the looks of, but the saw doctor has complained about them when putting blades in and out when they have a film of oil on the blade and hands are a bit oily or sweaty. And I can't justify over $350 to retire my current cardboard envelopes.
What have others made?I love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!
Allan.

I've made up timber cases for them. Thin wide mill offcuts, put together so only cost me the time to put them together. Drew the outline of the blade and tacked strips in place on the flat edges. Saw Dr stipulated they be round so he could roll them and a hole on the centre so they could be hung up if needed. Ran a jigsaw round the 'case' to make it round. The blade is held in with a stick tacked in place with two self tappers. They are not pretty then again neither am I.

I am a sawdoctor/toolmaker by trade my recomendation would be two large pieces of softwood ply around 19 mm thick, larger than the blades and between each blade some of that 5 to 6 mm thick mdf with a bolt through the centre for transport to and from the saw docs. In your shop you could hang them on the wall on approx 8 to 10 mm round bar welded to a main upright in your shed with the 5 to 6 mm mdf between blades this will protect them from each other and maintain them at their sharpest. I do not reccomend laying them flat unless absolutely neccesary and use a light lube such as wd spray or if in a really humid climate use rustillo. I have transported blades from western australia to the eastern states this way and have found them as good as the day I sharpened them. also if the saw doc waxes the tips leave the wax on them it will come off when you start cutting no need to remove it...lol

I use the lucas carry case to hold 2 blades at a time with a 5mm mdf board between them, when traveling they are stored behind the seat in the ute upright. I also send the blades to the doctor in this case, two at a time. The saw doctor covers the tips with some rubber coating to protect in transit.

yeah I certainly don't get anything on the tips when I get 'em back.
Looking to keep 'em in good nick in the ute, they are always in the ute, so not hanging 'em on walls.
Any pics?I love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!

wish some of you guys were down this way I have some nice big blackwoods I want to cut up, just waiting for my mate to get back his jig for chainsaw milling it, then I will do it like that, but a lucas Mill would be quicker and better.

There are some Alpacas nearby but I dont know the owners, As for quantity I could probably take at least 5 trees with Usable trunks around the 12"-18" + diameter with 2.5 - 4 metres + of trunk (could probably take more than that with collusion with the property owner) so could be worth while, would have to chat with the owner but He has said I can take as many as I like previously. what would you want to do it or would you be willing to do it for the a fair percentage of the timber? I would do the felling and moving to where they could be milled.
