G'day Lindsay, a big welcome to you. I've not been slicing up logs as longs as you, but I too have a Lucas, which if you hang around long enough you'll find out what I think about 'em
I'd say your slabs would be good at 55mm, Bunya is fairly stable and at the sizes you mentioned they'd not have much in the way of branches to distort the slabs would they?
As for any sizes for dimensional timber... thats a bit of a minefield, some people will want 38mm rough sawn boards, others might want 25mm wide boards. Just too hard to guess, my advice would be break 'em into larger sections which can then be broken down further using general workshop tools. This way it should be easy to get the job done but also easy to appeal to a wider market with the timber??
Anyway, you probably already had thoughts along this line.
Regardless welcomeI love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!
Allan.

G'day Lindsay and welcome to the sawdust heap.
Not a miller myself but am interested in anything to do with timber.
Stick with it here. Sigidi, weisyboy, BobL and a few others are good sources of info. Apart from that they are good blokes.

welcome to the forum biglog, the guitar makers don't mind the odd bit of bunya for accoustic guitars,so it might be worth ringing around to see if the want some up your way. basically the timber has to be true qrt sawn 250mm wide and 550mm long and perfect( no bark inclusion, knots or sap pockets) the last lot i sold went for $1800 per cube

Welcome Biglog. One thing with Bunya is to make sure you mill it and sticker it out as soon as possible after it is dropped as its very prone to bluestain. As for sizes-if you don't have specific order sizes I'm with Sigidi -200x 60,70,80 to allow for resawing. THere are probably puritans out there who advise against cutting large dimensions for later resawing. However for the hobby woody (my biggest market) who is happy to buy a lump of timber and saw their own sizes out of it this saves them money and me time. I write the date it was milled on each stick, they then work out for themselves re time for seasoning etc.

gday mate.
i cut soem bunya a few months back. cuts so easily and is quite stable.
its not so bad on bluestain not like hoop. i use hylite 80 and none of the stuff i sprayed has stained.
cut wide boards mate that way they can be trimed down easily. most woodworkers dont have facility's to re saw anything thicker than 50-75mm
8x1
8x1 1/2
8x2
4x4
thats what i do.

product for bluestain?
Hi Weisyboy,
Just cut some Hoop for a guy up here, and I've been using a cocktail of bleach and borax [for the borer] swished on with a watering can, both sides.
Did you mention a product which is used for the bluestain?
Getting the log milled early is the best thing I know, sealing the ends and branchcuts, then keeping the rain off...
Any help with this appreciated.
Regards,
richie

hylite 80
Hi again,
Not sure how to 'pm' but will work it out eventually if someone doesn't leap in and tell mebefore I do...
Good to hear it's an ok product - I'm not too far from Bris-vegas and get up there occasionally, guess it wouldn't hurt to have a few litres of this goo on hand...
1. Does it keep when mixed in solution, and for how long?
