I don't want to derail the thread or sound like a nanny but I want to remind folks to be careful with winches - big or small. More millers and loggers have died from winch accidents than chain saw accidents.

Aspects to consider are the rating of the winch (of course), the gear ratio, which has a significant impact on the winching speed , the weight of the winch if you are moving it around as oppposed to using it in a fixed position and the battery size required to power it.
Most of these winches have a remote control and this is essential. The rated pull only relates to the first winding of cable on the spool. As successive layers build up the winch capacity decreases.
You have to assess whether you will be doing straight pulls or rolling the logs by looping the cable around.
My bandsaw mill originally had a 3500lb winch. I later replaced that with a 10000lb winch, but I only use the winch to roll logs not to snig them.
I hope this helps.

You really want to roll the log (parbuckling). A 6000 pound winch will do that job.
Another caution: wire rope on winches have working strengths below the pull force of the winch they are mounted to. And wire rope will fail if the rope become kinked or crushed, which can happen if there are many rows of rope on the drum.
Your really want to skid the logs with something else and use the winch to load the trailer.
