I agree, but unfortunately that's life these days.

I reaize it's a very basic product but I'm really just trying to encourage the manufacturer to test out their product before getting in too deep and something goes pear shaped.

well, Carl dropped off the snigging tongs yesterday. They work just fine and I reckon they'd be really good as part of a cant hook, but perhaps a little thin for lifting. I'm going to reinforce them a little with some decent 3mm plate on one side and wrapping around the back, but the basic design looks sound. Good one Carl.
    Cheers,
    Craig

Sounds good - it would be interesting to show what they can lift.

The thing with sniggers is that sometimes they are used in a log tangle lifting a log trapped under other logs, so the forces on them can be higher than you think.

we used a set today lifting logs from my stack.

bigest log lifted was 2.5 m3 off teh top on dual tongs.

makes life easy not having to try and get chains underneath.

So what does 2.5 M³ equate to in dia and length?

Just as a side note, the snigging tongs that I have are only rated to snig logs, not to actually lift but I have lifted 6 mt long by 600dia logs with them quit easily and a few others but only at my place doing my own crap with no bystanders around and in no circumstances will I use them on a job for lifting as they are not certified to be used for lifting, have used them heaps for winching logs up to the truck.

I can buy a similar set to the snigging tongs which are certified for lifting but will cost 3 or 4 times the cost of the snigging tongs, so with this in mind, I would advised against using Carl's hooks for lifting unless he has paid to have them certified and stamped as such, because if an accident was to happen in your workplace, there is no way known that you'll be covered.
