After much deliberation and seeing a few saws in operation I decided on the stihl 660.Wow what a saw ran it through its paces on Sunday put through 5 loads of fuel cutting firewood. Very easy to handle cut through with ease. Thanks for all the info .

Nice choice!!! bit bigger than I thought you were looking at but you will be happy and you will find it is a good investment.

Clean your air filter every tank, I find that if you don't the performance really suffers by halfway through the second tank. I have been told it doesn't clog as bad if you take the nut (plastic and all) out of the air filter cover (orange boxy thing) and just screw the airfilter down without the cover using the aforementioned nut.

anyway as the saying goes no pics means it didn't happen.
I am told that sharpening handsaws is a dying art.... this must mean I am an artisan.

Get your handsaws sharpened properly to the highest possible standard, the only way they should be done, BY HAND, BY ME!!! I only accept perfection in any saw I sharpen.

Default Size chainsaw for Alaskan mill

    Hi

We are looking at buying an Alaskan mill and chainsaw for some small timber and hobby work. We are looking at logs of a max size 20 to 22". For larger logs we will slab to this size the get them to a friends Lucas mill. What would be the minimum cc's recommended got this size bar(24"). As we are new to this we will practice on any timber we get but have access to a fairly large quantity of iron bark and red stringy after the cyclone. Would you guys recommend sticking to the stihl or look at the husky or shindawa for slabbing.

    Thanks

    Trevor
