I can not say i have herd of them but i see you are from Tas try the stihl dealer in Hobart, Roberts McDon 03 6234 4322, i have found they have a lot parts for the older big Stihl models, also go on line, lots of parts for the 066

No chainsaw wrecker in Bendigo now - that I know of.
There was one a decade or so ago.....
Be worth ringing Stihl dealers all over a State or two to find one that has been broken elsewhere.

Not uncommon, handles are one of Stihl's biggest weaknesses, I've welded so many that I've lost count. They are available through Stihl, as you are probably aware - at a price. I would look at repairing the crack if it is not a daily work saw as they generally repair fairly well. Any workshop that welds aluminium can do it, we used to charge around $20 if the handle was brought to us in a reasonably clean condition. www.baileysonline.com in America also sell an aftermarket version, freight won't be too bad if you order some other items with it. Also try www.chainsawr.com they wreck chainsaws and I have had good luck with them as well. Given Stihl's weakness in this area, I would personally repair what I had or buy a new handle as a second hand item may be close to cracking in the near future.

Thanks for the info, very helpful. I am unable to repair mine as I butchered it in the proccess of repairing it. I needed to keep using the saw and don't live anywhere near town. I was able to shove some 12mm copper water pipe up into the alum tubing on both ends of the brocken handle, I then used some large pop rivets to hold it all together. Worked fine, I was able to keep using the saw an am still using it, it won't last too long though. I will start ringing the Sthil shops first but I see that Baileys have one for $39 US plus freight. That looks like a great site, I may get a few things there so the freight works out a bit better. cheers

A few years ago I needed an air filter for my 048 stihl.

I got online, got the email address of every stihl dealer within 450km and started emailing them.

About half didn't reply.

I found one dealer who had what I wanted.

Took a bit of work but I got there.
