What I read about them didn't indicate that With their wide temperature range for growing, I figured they would go off once the water warmed up a bit. I'm sitting around 20 deg all the time and have now found I can feed 'em 3 times a day whereas before I was only doing 1 feed a day, so they are now getting 3x the growth, but because I can't eat 'em yet I'm bummed lol mind you they are only 3 months in the tank.

Must say I have not read alot about them as I have been trying to learn all I can about barra, trout, marron and Koi which I currently have to look after but my understanding was around 18 months from fingerlings for silver perch.

You can get them to around 250grams in two years apparently. No real hurry, was more of a bonus when one of the school marron that was thrown into the tank to try and keep the bottom clean went into berry. I moved her into the classroom system and she is now in a nursery tank inside with about 30 juviniles, just waiting for the final few to be dropped from her tail and she will be kicked back outside.

Wifey was looking into getting some from over there to chuck in over here - small enough meal when they are adults But I reckon we have to have more success with our redclaw before we go bringing Marron in

    Default Dead Fish

Here is what happens when things go wrong, 75 dead Silver Percch. My timer failed and they died from a lack of disolved oxygen (DO). It was unfortunate coincidence that I had just had 20kg of food delivered that day and I initially thought it was a change of diet that killed them.

Anyone in brisbane need fish food ?

    cheers
    Derek

Derek, looks like you needed an emergency back up switch, just to keep the water moving and keep up the DO - it's a bugger about the fish mate!

Hi all, I have not been around much since selling my mill. How goes your aquaponics Al and Derek? Mine is still plodding along with Koi in it and awaiting my finishing the next growbed.

I have found another thing to make from wood that is fun though..... Top Bar Beehives google it I have a thread on the backyard aquaponics forum showing mine so far, can't wait to harvest some honey

    Hi Burnsy,

My system stills runs but without fish. Still haven't replaced them since my HSM (Holy S**t Moment) earlier this year when I lost all 75+ Silver Perch. My supplier is getting new stock in so I will probably add about 100 fingerlings, species yet to be determined.

    BTW, the beehive looks good.

    cheers

Mine seems to be going ok, but have had to slow it down as not enough plant matter to convert and clean the water
