Crows Ash
Mate was doing some fencing down at Raglan, so he said come down and see what we can find, and here's a few pics....
Not a huge log but reasonable, nearly 4m long and another 2.5ish plus some fork pieces

Should be able to find a table in this lot in a few years

I freehanded the fork pieces into 100mm thick then bring them back home to cut into veneer slices, first time I have cut veneers green, I decided to do this to see if I can dry crotch veneer slices from green without them cracking too much, usually solid pieces end up cracking, I also cut some straight grained 1/4 sawn slices which I just hung up on a line, these dried nice and straight, the crotch pieces curled up a bit much so they need to be restrained

Hi mp, OK hate me now or later, I don't mind, perhaps by way of a peace offering I have quite a few CA pieces that I got off an old bloke a while back that in reality I'll probably never use, stuff he would have cut for turning bowls and some larger pieces so if you are in need of any CA let me know, I might well have something

Forgot to say, when I cut anything up I will cut down to 1" x1" by 300mm or so, I have a cupboard filling up with a variety of species in 1"x1" including CA from the log above

hey pete what size did you cut the veneers and that looks like cardboard in between is that enough to hold them flat .

They end up at about 2.5mm thick, and it is cardboard, I am trying it as strips rather than a whole piece, straight grain (non crotch) slices tend to behave quite well and the cardboard keeps everything flat, crotch pieces tend to be a lot more active and my thinking is a slow dry is better for crotch pieces, the slices in the pic I dried in the kiln and they moved quite a bit, not as a result of the cardboard failing, more a case of to rapid drying in the kiln, (will require flattening) first time I have done crotch pieces from green so still experimenting.
