Angry Another decent trunk to the tip

Got a call today from one of my sites saying the contractor had just dropped a decent blackwood. I asked what size and I was told it was 600mm dia max, and there was 2 lengths around 2m long just waiting for me to take them away. They would hold it for me today, but tomorrow they had to go. So I dropped everything and headed off with the big ute assuming I could just lift them into the back.

Arrived on site to find a forest gum, not a blcakwood, in 2 lengths of around 5m long and 1m min dia . I wasn't inducted for that site, so couldn't come back with my mill either. It had to go today, so it is heading for the tip . Blo-dy shame, it had large branches at 1m centres where the trunk was around 1.5m wide, so the grain would have been fantanstic.

I've trained them to call me when they drop a tree, now just have to work out how to get them to call me earlier .

Depends on how much the feds give us, not many sites being cleared down my way. This was an interchange upgrade, I didn't even know there were any large trees to be cleared, but the project manager knew my interest in timber. To work on road sites you need a heap of tickets these days.

I will put the word out if there are any big jobs around with plenty of trees to be had. Usually only the branches and smaller trees are mulched, the big trunks get taken to the tip so are up for grabs usually.

You need to pay for the logs you scrounge,
A slab per truckload sounds a reasonable price.

I'd head down the tip with a slab under me arm too
