Don't want to but I may have to
Due to a few unforeseen incidences, such as a replacement engine, g/box in the Crane Truck and being laid off work for 3 months due to Gallstones and a gallbladder removal, I'm seriously considering selling my Lucas mill.
So I am putting some feelers out as to what I might expect to get for my mill, if I put it on the market.
For those that don't know, mine is an 96 vintage 20/8 with a fairly new motor in it, as it has been replaced with an electric start 22hp and by my reckoning, it has done approximately 30 hrs or less. Details of replacement motor can be seen here.
It will come with 6 blades if I remember correctly, a weatherboard attachment and a home made slabbing attachment which is equal or better than the original with 2 Lucas slabbing bars. Has the standard Rails plus extensions which means it'll cut 6mt boards or slabs.Cheers

if i was to sell i would be chasing around $10000 i have similar attachments and extras.
i assume you mean 98 model not 89 as they only started making them in 94.

Good phone plans... you guys are funny
Well DJ if you put yours up for $8K maybe I should be looking to drop mine a bit more???
Yours is 14 years old, with a 22hp motor and 8" cut, your mill purchase price today would be $16,000 with extras taking the total to around $18,000
Mine is 6 years old, with 18hp motor and 6" cut, my current mill purchase price would be $11,900 with extras taking the total to around $16,000.
DJ the big thing I look at is when someone is buying the mill what can die on them or needs replacing to use it? there isn't any hydraulics to leak, no broken hoses, no busted rams, it's not like any other piece of machinery- I feel the rollers need to be 'young' gearbox in good order and motor still needs life in it and then someone is cutting for a long time before needing anything else. The rails don't need replacing, the winches are simple, they work or don't, what else is there? someone can push out timber just as well with yours as it stands today as compared to a bright new shiny one - it's not like a used car which keeps costing more in clutch, big end bearings, power steering pump, alternator, timing belt, tires, cv shafts and boots etc. (anyone happy I was typing instead of talkin yet?)
Essentially as long as it was looked after, and lets face it, if you use a Lucas to get a paycheck, you will look after it or you don't get a paycheck - right? There isn't anything hidden which will be bit someone in the bum...
Just my $2 worth...I love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!
Allan.

Allan sorry i didnt ring you to get your thoughts on this mill (phone plan only gives $900 worth every month at 34 c per unit)
One call to you would have ended my monthly allocation . I think this is well priced for a sale and having had DJ at my place using it i can say it does a great job.
I would love to buy it but after due consideration i decided i retired and don't intend to buy something that creates more work.
Good luck to both of you selling your mills, 2 genuine blokes who have looked after their machines and selling with good intentions.
Cheersregards

I would like to thank everyone who has offered advice or commiserations, it is appreciated
But I now might be able to hang on to the mill for now, due to a friend up here in the valley offering to loan me some gear to create some extra work for me, which will help tide me over if it all comes together for me.Cheers
