Default An eclectic mix of Milling in Perth

    Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen

These pictures are posted on behalf of a friend, Derek Doak, who suffered an horrific accident as a teenager and lost all his fingers in a tragic railway accident. He was a promising pianist with the Perth Philharmonic Orchestra as a child prodigy and this accident ended a promising career as an international musician.

Nah, not really, he was born with 11 thumbs and has difficulty typing.

    Anyhoo

Please enclosed some pictures of some stunning milling he has done quite recently

Jam. So called because when cut, it exudes a wonderful fragrance similar to the smell of fresh cooked raspberry jam. An awesome timber to work with from the fringes of the WA goldfiields. It has a real sheen to it straight from the chisels and gets better as the finer grades of sandpaper are applied. Very hard and dense.

Some Banksia, which is quite large, but I cannot remember the dimensions

3 pictures of WA Marri. These slabs had a fork, or crutch that went the length of the slab.

The last two slabs are River Red Gum. They look stunning with a ton of Curl or quilting.

    Cheers
    Willy

Default but wait, there is more

Further to the last post, here are some pictures of a massive River Red Gum. Derek seems to find quite a few of these.
The butt went 1.4 meters, the sections were too large for his crane, hence they are broken down using his home made jig which allows him to cut the log in half for ease of lifting. This also gives him an idea of what the timber will look like. The saw is an old Stihl 090

    Sincerely
    Willy

You are almost a match for MM's teasing!

I have a small piece of jam that I use to demonstrate with to the Doubters Union.
