Experienced miller req. Central Vic, big logs.
Hi guys.
I am looking for expressions of interest from any experienced sawmillers who would be interested in doing some milling for me. I have 15 large mature redgum logs, ranging from 1.2 to 2.1 in diameter and 3.0 - 6.0m in length. They are truely magnificent logs, some of the best I have salvaged in the last 15 years. I am currently preparing them all, as in they will be cut to length and rolled out ready for milling. The job will be ready to start in a few weeks, but not essential.
I am providing my M10 Lucas as well as the longer model dedicated slabber, bobcat, crane truck, etc and would be able to supply a worker as well if required. Accomodation may be possible if required. The logs are located in the Bendigo area. The logs are located on private property, so the standard rules of respect would apply.
All but 2 of the logs are of slabbing quality, with boards to be milled either side of the heart. Due to the potential value of the timber, such as boardroom tables, only a person who is experienced at processing large timbers will be considered. I expect that most of the logs will take around 2 days to mill each, hence there is probably 3-4 weeks work.
As much as I wish to keep the labour costs down, the emphasis will be producing quality timber and I know from experience this takes time. The person who is milling will need to have the experience to decide when to swap from slabbing to cutting boards as the quality of the log presents during milling, as well as features such as birdseye and fiddleback that determine backsawn or quarter sawn cuts for boards.
I am happy to pay on a contract or per hour basis, however having your own insurance would be preferred. I would love to mill these logs myself, but an employment change has left me with limited time. I am not interested in a timber share deal. If you are interested please give me a call on 0417845224, but genuine enquiries only please.
Thank you and happing milling!
James.

I will let a bloke I know, know of this post and you may recieve a call from him he also has a 10 inch lucas and attachments.
I am told that sharpening handsaws is a dying art.... this must mean I am an artisan.
Get your handsaws sharpened properly to the highest possible standard, the only way they should be done, BY HAND, BY ME!!! I only accept perfection in any saw I sharpen.

Hi folks.
Just went out to the milling site to see how Krunchie and Tony were going with my logs. The photos don't do their hard work justice. In that photo, the miller is about 8 feet off the ground and the mill is positioned up on pallets about half a metre from the ground. When we were rolling the log away from the stump with a D6 dozer, you could only see the flashing light on top of the cab from the other side. Awesome effort!
The slabs are great and there are many packs of 8 and 10 inch high quality boards, quartersawn fiddleback everywhere! I am preparing the last log on this job tomorrow, and it is huge. My 9000lb winch couldn't even roll it, so we will hook Krunchie's onto it as well. This little project will produce a semi load of great sawn timber from just 13 logs, so it gives you and idea how big these logs are. And yes, the boys are looking tired at the end of the day!! Well done guys!

Thanks James has been a once in a life time job and after 2 weeks milling your logs we finally got to spend a day in the paddock with you and your cousin John and here's a few pics to give the rest of you a true measure of big wood.
Under the corner of the mill is 3 pallets @ 100mm high each 1 100mm riser and a 100mm riser for the mill to shuffle on plus a 40mm packer
