No better Feeling!!
Borrowed a mates Lucas a while ago and went to SW Qld to make some Sawdust. Got a nice load of Bloodwood,Beefwood and Yellowjacket, The best part was that I was able to stack it all in the old shearing shed for a while to dry out before I bought it Home. Anyway attached are a couple of photos, the last one is a Blanket Box made from the Bloodwood. Enjoy!!!

Bloody hell This man has some skill, That blanket box looks brilliant, I was talking to some one the other day who said Blood wood was usless and had no commercial value cause of sap vains and the way it dosent cut so good. I d like to see some Beefwood I ve never heard of that. As for yellow Jacket I d leave them standing they make the greatest honey I think. But it is an under rated timer Looking forward to more pictures

Gday Newjon you have done an awesome job on the Blanket Box Mate
When I was sawing blood wood up in a mill in qld years ago we where sawing it into garden sleepers and sending container loads of it to Japan . I was thinkn it would have been a nice timber for furniture making with gum veins and pockets being the biggest issues I reckon
Regards Chris

The Bloodwood I was cutting was on Sandy Country, the Tree's were straight and Tall with minimal Sap Veins. The Beefwood trees also grow well in this area. The Log to the right of the Mill in photo 1 is a beeefwood, This is from the Grevillea family, Attached is a Coffee Table and Chair made from Beefwood, You can see the Grain in the Legs of the coffee table. The Beefwood can have a High resin content which continues to bleed after you have finished it. I have not had to many problems with the timber I source down in SW Qld.

Cookie48,
The Initials on the chair are Cattle brands,These belong to the bloke that wanted the chair made. This is one of 5 of these chairs I have made for different people around the area. I wish I had the money and time to make this a full time career. But like most people woodwork doesn't pay the bills!!

What have you used the yellow jacket for Newjon ? Dont mind that beef wood might need to pay you visit to learn where to get it , How did you finish it ? how well does it handle the weather ?

yeah I've found most the bloodwood I've cut just breaks apart, have had the odd ones hold but not enough for me to get excited over them.
As newjon has done, bloodwood is rated highly as a furniture timber though - great job on that blanket box mate and welcomeI love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!
Allan.

Jon
Blanket box looks good. SHMBO spotted it and gave the seal of approval too. She even commented on the dovetail joints. I'm impressed (with her observations) and of course with your blanket box.

Paul,
I have to confess. The Dovetails were cut with a leigh Dovetail Jig. I wanted to get them done ASAP and the Carcass put together before the boards Cupped.
