firewood splitter
been making a firewood splitter, not one of them panzy split the block 6 times at snails pace.
this beast can push threw a block up to 600mm diamiter into 12 peices, have tested it on a 500mm ironbark block with 2 branch stubs didint even fintch pushed it strait threw.
at present i am running it off my bobcat ot tractor but am looking for a deisel motor to mount on it (about 20hp). still gota put on a infeed conveyor and block lifter.
it can do about 6 ton/hour with one person heaps more with someone loading block aswell.

Looking very interesting Carl. Glad to see your looking into infeed, going to be interesting how your going to get them lined up, but I'd hate to load the 500 dia stubs into place by hand

Oooh, wish I had one of those when my neighbour and I split half a dozen Mountain Ash a few weeks ago. We hired one of those pansy splitters. Did okay but combined with chainsawing the logs, my back is still complaining. Still, I heard they're paying $300 a tonne for redgum here in Melbourne whereas up Eildon way, about $75 a tonne. Go figure.

Very well done, I'd like to see a video of it working if every you make one.I made a conical screw splitter with 10 hp motor and it wouldn't touch our hardwood so now its a charcoal crusher.Using 2 rams was a good idea to keep to available componants.

Haven't got the conveyor working yet as I need hydraulic hoses and a variable flow screw valve that I know I have in the shed but can't find but it works great and even unloading the split wood out the bottom by hand and hand loading each block it will do 3 m3 / hour.
It's got so much power I bent one of the 150mm long cutters that are 16mm thick metal gullotine blades into a horse shoe.
I will get a vid when I get back on Sunday.
I think it works better with 2 rams than with 1 it helps spread the force over the whole area not just one place.

You are a very inventive man.
I wondered if the blades have bent because as the timber is split it widens the diametre of the log and there is nowhere for the splits to expand. This would be particularly true for the piece between the two long cutters.
The other possibility is where there is a knot or branch. There is a lot of extra resistance and perhaps the blades were not up to the job. A piece of old grader blade cutting edge would probably do a similar job to the guillotine blade if you are running out of cutting edges.
I hope you welded them in position using low hydrogen rods or something similar.
The conveyor is a nice touch.

Very nice job. Watch out for the fingers. Those rams have a fair bit of grunt and it would be no contest if a body part got in the way.
Looks like you can use a natural bump to load down into the truck. That's a change from the elevator in the previous pictures.
