A few free logs
Have had to postpone milling as I stumbled onto some nice free Spotted gum logs so had to get busy making a lift/loading frame for my trailer to cart them home.

They were some decent straight trees, unfortunately had to cut them to 3.5ish m to be able to cart them home, (priced some cartage but cost outweighed value) figured don't need any longer, for myself, over that.

The last pic is the largest log about 750mm the butt, a bit over a meter before the fork and the two limbs were over 400 each.
Salvaged 8 logs in all from about 375mm at butt.

The trailer and frame were modified during course of the harvest and the trailer is now waiting for some more repair and upgrade now the pressure is off.
The trees were going to anybody and some applicants were going to make firewood.

Thanks Cal,
I think I might stick to Bob's advice (not sure which decade or forum) but unless it's changed from experience. Bob said word the effect of "when the bark starts falling of, he heard, is also the right time to mill".
BTW have painted all ends.
I don't post anywhere often but owe a lot to this forum (and others) and the mentors that helped me get to where I am, so feel obligated to repay that in a small way that might help others, and if still kicken' will post the cuts.
People who give up time and knowledge to help others are my heroes, not over rated, over payed and can't get over themselves sports men and superstars.
Sorry for the rant .
What are your thoughts on best time to mill SG?

In my neck of the woods, spotty bark falls off anywhere between 5 and about 9 months and tis indeed a good time to mill. Longer than this and the stuff starts to case harden and can really hits saw chain hard, especially at the long ends. If you do have to leave it till later, docking about 6' off the ends is worth doing.

Well done. There should be some nice timber there.
