Gidgie
I am being taken out to a property this morn so I can cut myself some gidgie. I want to make some planes and spoke shaves and maybe some saw handles. How should I store the wood for the trip home. A couple of weeks in the back of a 4x4? I have been told to put it in large sealed plastic bags to slow down moisture loss. Any ideas?

Just seal the ends of the log, cut them over long so you can cut the ends off later.
I use log end sealer but water based paint is just as good.Cliff.

Beware the beefwood.... it oozes resin for lots & lots of years.

Free ironwood
Well I got taken out about 60k from town and was shown what a gidgie was. I cut all I could fit in the back of the paj. I need the back seat for my brother and other stuff like clothing. I also cut some beefwood too. This wood is very heavy so I don't want to overload the poor old girl. I probably have 3 or 400 kilo of wood. The problem now is I had to cut a half a dozen trees at my brothers place near the Gold Coast and two of them are iron bark. Very red wood with some yellow flashes. I grabbed a couple of pieces of that too. The rest will be burnt.....anyone that wants some for free PM me. You have a week or two to pick it up. You will need a wheelbarrow and a chainsaw.

That's why we have trailers: To overload our vehicle, flaunt the load capacity of the trailer and test the boundaries of the towing capability .

Yes I didn't bring a trailer this trip. Wanted to see if I could get gidgie. Next time I will have a real chainsaw and a trailer.

Hi Pagie, are you still on the Gold Coast? Love to catch up, and yes I might be interested in some of the red ironbark, what sizes are we talking about? The club is always after some nice red stuff, but we are also after a monster blank for to play with while he is here .
PM me
