Default Guess ur not allowed 2 post saying u'd like 2 see stuff in this forum anymore either

    .

Personally I only check this forum, this is what interests me, I don't see why log bolsters has to be locked and banished to elsewhere - its part of the milling process.

Carl and I are looking at the viability of a truck and how DJ made his bolsters interests me - in a milling capacity!!!!

Does that mean when Bob makes stuff 'associated' with milling it has to be sent away too??????

I know I know - delete it...whatever..... this place is getting ridiculous

I take it you are referring to this thread by DJ?

    https://www.woodworkforums.com/f184/n...rs-wip-167679/

For your information, it was posted in that forum by DJ, who is a mod and unlike you realises that there are other aspects to this Woodworking Forum than timber milling.

He also realised that it would be of interest to people such as yourself, so he put up a thread in the Small Timber Milling forum with a link to it. To avoid responses in 2 places HE locked the second one.

    Any more conspiracy theories?

I don't think it's a conspiracy theory, more a frustration that exists with some users who, by choice, frequent only one section of the forum. There should be an option where you can select multiple sections of the forum if the post involves two disciplines combined. The other option (as some members already do and as DJ has done) is to create the thread in the appropriate section and then create another in the other forum highlighting the existence of the other.

Whilst Alan's post appears to be a 'conspiracy theory' or whatever anyone feels like labelling it, Alan has highlighted some real concerns which need to be addressed in an understanding manner.

Fred said it for me Allan as he saw it before I did and I knew you guys would be interested so I posted the link, easier for me to keep all the replies in one thread rather than two threads.

Hey Allan, just thinking on it a bit more, if you like, I'll move the https://www.woodworkforums.com/f184/n...rs-wip-167679/ thread to Small Timber Milling, and move the https://www.woodworkforums.com/f132/n...t-tied-168151/ to Trailers & Other Fabricated Stuff.

    Let me know your thoughts.
    Cheers

Scott, I hear what you are saying, but if you only frequent one part of the forum then don't vent your frustration at the mods (and call them names I might add) if you miss out on things.
In this case Sigidi added 2+2 and came up with 5, in other words he jumped to a totally unwarranted conclusion, which was way off beam.

You say his concern needs to be addressed in an understanding manner, he doesn't seem to display much of an understanding manner in his thread and thread heading.

It doesn't always pay to jump to conclusions, particularly if one is not totally aware of what is going on.

But if you have suggestions on how to address Sigidi's concerns I'm sure the Admins and Mods will listen to your suggestions in an understanding way.

From where I sit DJ showed a lot of understanding on what interests different members of this forum and addressed it in an appropriate way, all he got for his trouble was a totally unwarranted blast.

Dj, not saying you need to move things around mate - that's exactly what I'm getting at... I'm saying why the heck does it have to be so cut and dry, posts getting locked and shifted etc. why can't it be ,as suggested, visible across different sub-forums and still be the same thread?

Big shed - so its now a problem with maths if someone chooses to look at one part of the whole forum???? geese mate!!! ease up. From someone who has been here a few years longer than yourself, I'm trying to point out this sub-forum has alll but died and I attribute it partly to over zealous moderating in 'select' circumstances, plus a lack of moderation where it IS needed - It seems those that contribute the most round here cop a whole heap and just don't bother, one of the biggest contributors (and I'm not talkin someone who throws up spam/junk) in this sub-forum was chased off because others felt his spelling wasn't as good as they felt it should be - moderators did nothing - 'that was evident'

Personally its got to the point where I need at least an hour to post a single thread with pics (we all like Pics) and a story about the stuff I'd like to show others - and half the time its a turkey shoot it the damn thing actually posts... after about the second or third time I just chuck the photo's up and leave it to everyone's imagination as to what is going on (if I do a post anymore)

Then face the idea that if someone (god forbid) asks if we sell the damn timber...well what a storm that is - c'mon none of us are that silly, many of us here are in business and of course we sell our timber and also our milling services, does it mean that because I am going to sell the timber I salvaged last week from the bloke next door, then I have to put it in the buy, sell swap forum and can't show folkes stuff about it here????
life isn't that cut and dry.

A lot of bluster there, but you can't get away from the fact that you accused "the mods" from "banishing" a thread and locking another one, when that wasn't the case at all and you glibly added that to your overzealous moderating list.

The thread you are talking about was a long and a good one, yes I asked for the sales activity to be confined to the Market Place, politely and briefly. The thread wasn't closed and is still there, but now closed at the request of the thread poster, not at the instigation of an "overzealous" mod.

Yes, I know the person you are talking about and he was a great contributor, however, again he wasn't a victim of overzealous moderating he was a victim of fellow forum members and timber millers that thought it was "fun" to have a go at his spelling.

As for your troubles in posting threads, apparently that is the fault of the overzealous mods too, is it?

    As you said, ease up.

I guess comprehension isn't a requirement to be a moderator....

I clearly stated the instance of someone being 'run off' was a cicumstance where moderation WAS needed and WASN'T!!!

Also I made comments regarding posts being moved/locked in a general sense without specifics...unlike you jumping to conclusions... I was acutally aluding to a recent post of mine, being moved and locked before I was even able to reply to it... I let it go cause it didn't seem worth it.

Yes the other thread was locked at the request of a thread poster, but seriously (as you already mentioned) there was more going on for the poster to make this request "one is not totally aware of what is going on"

you know what, seriously, forget it, you will twist things around as you see fit becasue you have your knickers in a knot - I notice nothing addressing the issue........

    Thanks for your reply Fred.

Firstly I'd like to acknowledge the thankless task of moderating this forum which, without your existence, would be a schmozzle. It must be hard to deal with some forum members who, for whatever reason, like to be trouble. I'm sure you have bitten your tongue till it's bled.

Both DJ and yourself have done the right thing in this instance and I was a little quick with my reply. But lately I do detect a LOT of angst in certain areas of this forum. I also think that, on occasions, this forum is over-moderated. I'm sorry I can't provide any specific examples however I have thought on more than one occasion "geez, that's a bit harsh".

I can't provide a specific solutions on posting a thread which could span across many categories (DJ's post an example). I must say that an ordinary user does not have the ability to 'close a thread' that highlights the existence of another without contacting a mod to do so. In the past, if I've done the same thing, I've always stated in one thread or another, 'please keep your comments to such and such thread' with a hyperlink to that thread. Not everyone does this though.

I think this issue is a symptom of a VERY large forum with MANY categories. Too many categories I think. I'll be perfectly frank here and state that I consider this forum, as far as woodworking is concerned, is very dilute. I know I'm thinking of making the move to a forum which is Woodturning specific for this very reason.

Sorry, there are no specific suggestions in this reply, as you've asked, more generalisations and thoughts. I think some solutions are software based, others... well, you get the drift.

Finally thanks for all the work you and the other mods do on this forum

I joined this forum expecting to be able to have fun and contribute in some way, but it appears that this is not a fun place so I think that I am out of here.

Bob, if you where here a while ago mate, you would understand, this place was fun, it was addictive, its a shame to see it the way it is now, I guess I'm frustrated to see it this way and want it to be the way it was...

Hi Bob, I am relatively new around here, try not to be to hasty, this is not a regular occurrence, the positives far outweigh the negatives on this forum, and there is a lot of fun and learning to be had, occasionally people will be on different wavelengths I just choose not to follow the negative threads. stick around a while longer you will soon work out who is outspoken and who's here to have fun
    regards
    Joel
