hall of fame or museum
can anybody tell me if there is a timber milling hall of fame or museum a proper one i mean where everything to do with the old timber getters/cutters and old mills photos old machinery etc etc and there would be heaps of the stuff still about i am sure, even up to the modern times, old axes, wedges chainsaws, crosscuts anything if not then why not maybe a govt dept may be able to help, i am thinking along the lines of the stockman hall of fame, my grandad was a timber cutter and a pit sawer in his young days also bullock driver i have photos i would like to donate, these old pioneers shoul not be forgotten or the industry for that matter./ cheers peter (grandad)

peter, so far i haven't heard of one. but i would be interested to help set something up. my family started woodcutting in the early 20's and when you mention pit cutting i had a chuckle, the old man being the youngest brother, spent the day in the pit, till he found someone else to do it. anyway i have a small quantity of pics i could donate to a library regards charlsie

There is a timber museum near gympie or close to it somewheres down there, on the Bruce Hway, was a saw mill in days gone by, has pics and video of how it used to be done, displays of gear used for the time, just googled it http://www.woodworksmuseum.com.au

Pete, the woodworks museum has a 4 day thing coming up next month, running it in conjunction with two of our other main tourist things, the Mary Valley Rattler steam train and the Gold Mining Museum - they are calling it the Ultimate Steam Festival. They'll have a portable milling competition going on too
I love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!
Allan.
