Question Help flattening some large slabs (Dandenong Ranges area)

    Hi folks,

Posted this in general but the conversation suggests that someone in this area might be able to help.

I have 4 large slabs (800mm x 2.4m) that I would like to clean up / flatten. Anyone around the Dandenong Ranges that wouldn't mind helping me with this? I'm happy to pay for time and materials, etc.

Something like a Lucas Mill with a planer attachment would do the job.

    Thanks,
    Af.

Hi AB. Have you seen any of the router sled set ups on YouTube? Making this simple (ish) jig could be well worth your while for the four slabs

If you have a 1/2” 2 hp router and some timber you can buy a cutter and make a sled in about an hour and do it yourself.

I use this one in my planing sled and it's mint.

Only comment is you really need a variable speed big router as 15,000rpm is plenty for this. The soft start feature on these routers also avoids the nasty starting torque for easier handling.

If you’re running that diameter cutter at 15,000 rpm you’re asking for trouble. Especially if it’s a no-name one off the internet.

If you can track down someone with a Torque Work Centre, that should do the trick.

They are around, and I'd like to help, but just a little far away from Dandenong (Only 900klm's!).

Another option again, is someone with a Slab Master? Similar sort of set-up.

    Cheers C.R.
