Thread: Help with wayward Stihl 070

I've been trawling the internet & the forum looking for any leads on a manual for my ancient Stihl 070. Several members have the 076, & from a few pics it looks similar overall, but different in the flywheel compartment, so perhaps noone will get my description.

Anyway, this is my problem: Last week the old girl died in mid cut, and my quick diagnosis was the electrical system. This turned out to be correct - the lead for the primary winding on the coil had snapped off, just inside the bakelite surround. All attempts to reconnect were futile, so gritted my teeth & ordered a new one ($190 ). While I had it pulled to bits, I stripped & cleaned the carby. Put it back together & it started first pull. HOWEVER, I cannot get it to run properly. I fiddled with the Hi/Lo jets as per usual, but it just won't reach full power. The trouble is the governor/throttle; it doesn't seem to be opening properly as the saw speeds up. I can move it manually, & all is well - revs up & develops full power, but that isn't a very practical solution!

It seems to me I have either inadvertently bent the thin fin in the flywheel housing that actuates the connecting rod, or reconnected it skewiff when replacing the carburetor (though I can't see how, as it is a very simple thing & looks like it can only be connected one way.

So I was looking for a manual to get an idea of where things ought to be but no luck - looks like she is just too old to be of interest to anyone else! Can any of you CS gurus understand what I am blabbing about & offer some sage advice????
