hey carl dont think he will need a skip tooth chain on that mill.
now that mill i could build i like it ,simple and strong .
how wide is the blade (band ) that came with the mill if you dont mind me asking and what is the tooth spacing on it just like to know how well it runs on those tyres
i have some 15inch falcon mags at home could make a sports mill.
i also have a 3 cylinder 36 hp lister diesel ,bit heavy would have to bring the logs to it

Interesting bit of kit burlboy, do you have to lift the logs over the running tracks? what about track length - I suppose you could just add extra sections of SHS to increase it's cut length? as long as they where kept level/in line/parallel

as a matter of fact you can get skip tooth bandsaw blades. i ran one on my shop saw when resawing hardwood veneers.

Cheers for the comments! Weisyboy, Ive also got an Alaskan for the bigger logs, with a custom bar that can cut 1900 wide. I use a Stihl 090AV which gives me all the grunt I need 4 slabbing dry WA timbers! Been thinking bout a winch set up 4 the Alaskan. The bloke I got it off used to use one with it...hmmm? Id love to own a Lucas mate, thats the next step! I reckon Ive nearly worn out that DVD they sent me...ha ha! Its torturous watching that
Texx...the mill is not here with me, but next time I go down me shed I will have a look 4 ya! From memory, blade width is about 50-60mm, and tooth spacing is about the same, but dont quote me on that. The tyre set up works great, as its easy enough to get the compressor out and adjust...very smooth!

I'm interested to see what one would look like... do you have any pics? I figured a band with 'skip' teeth would be called a 1 tpi instead of a 2tpi for example.

skip tooth bands have zero rake and a flat between teeth. with a regular band to get 1tpi you have to have a band over 1" wide to allow for the big gullets where a kip tooth band you can get a 1tpi in a much thinner band.

normal handsaw blades everything is regular the tooth size relates tot eh spacing.

imagine a regular chainsaw chain if you wanted the same spacing in a regular chain as you have in a skip chain then the teeth would need to be huge.
