    Default Hoop Pine removal.

We had some Hoop Pine taken out 'cos it was too close to our house & my new shed.

At the time that I got some quotes, nobody wanted the timber so it was going to be cut up & chipped & the logs just dumped down by the creek in the rain forest.

Anyway, that is all from another story posted elsewhere, but as it turns out, somebody saw the logs & put me onto a bloke who has a 2nd hand mill & uses it on the weekend.
I gave him a call & he came out for a look & he is now cutting up the logs for the timber, he gets the timber & I get less dead trees lying around rotting at my place.

After he had been here for a couple of weekends, I got him to cut up the Silky Oak mentioned in this thread.

Now, back to the pine trees, here are some pics.

They are treating it with Hylite 80 from http://www.osmose.com.au/
    Look under products.
It is $600 for 20L but that will make up 4000L of mixture which works out at about 15c/L mixed.
    Cliff.

So Cliff, what have you got against trees... you seem to be cutting a few down lately! (we are all a bit green (with envy) of you and your trees)

I recently had trees close to my house and powerlines removed. The gums went to the neighbourhood for firewood and the cypress has been cut in half and painted for wood turning. Really great turning it green too.

Seriously, you (and he) are certainly getting a good collection of timber and it will certainly keep you supplied for quite some time.

    Cheers,

    Chipman

Read this thread from a few years ago.... it also explains why I took out the Silky Oak near the house.

Yeah, trees are nice until they fall on your house
That storm made a mess of your place Cliff.

Buildings can be replaced but if any of your family are in the house where the tree might fall, you obviously are going to cut the trees down. (that is why mine had to go before they fell and landed on my daughter's bedroom) Some of the neighbours have got thingy about it and to be honest, we miss the trees too. But people are more valuable than trees. I will just plant some more (that don't grow so tall and not so close to the house like the prevvious owner did)

    Cheers,

    Chipman

A few shots of the slabbing from today.

Unfortunately, several of the slabs are cracking up the middle.

    Hi Cliff,
Very unfortunate of you having that "fork" growing like that! looking at the way the boards did come out, (timber structure and not cutting method) one would expect those half's to separate with little effort!.
A really shame, as I spotted that fork in one of your first pics of those trees, and thought that would give the widest boards, have the best grain colours and design. I was wrong, that is to show that one can never tell was is inside until it is exposed!

    Cheers

The next lump to be slabbed also has a fork in it but the bottom cut is much further away (below) the fork & there is only a little bit about the fork so it sould be better.
There is another big lump that has also been cut much lower that the fork so it should be good too.

Does this guy wear any hearing protection at all ? No Ear Muffs that I can see of and ear plugs would only give limited protection

Shame about the fork going right down the trunk.
    Cheers

Hey DJ, I'm sure Cliff made comment about the lack of protection, and Cliff is probably like me, if someone doesn't want to protect themselves from things like eye injuries, hearing deficiencies, why should it be our responsibility to enforce common sense?

Yeah you can say to him, I'm not letting you cut in my yard if you don't have PPE on, but again, why should others have to police common sense? The mill has big enough bright yellow stickers with warnings all over them... again common sense???

Anyone who runs a Lucas for any time without hearing protection won't need it in future anyway...
    Cheers,
