I am told that sharpening handsaws is a dying art.... this must mean I am an artisan.
Get your handsaws sharpened properly to the highest possible standard, the only way they should be done, BY HAND, BY ME!!! I only accept perfection in any saw I sharpen.

I'd be starting to be concerned if a gearbox is getting much more than cant hold your hand on it for long
I'd certainly be thinking something is going on if it has started to make a noise and it's getting hot.
Carl, maybe drain the oil and have a look to see if u can see any metal particles in the oil, it'll look like iredescent paint if it's bad.

Do you grease your mill before or after running, this makes a difference in bottom bearing life.

Carl with my model 6 the gearbox would get very hot during a days milling, so hot if you checked the oil level at the end of the day, you got showered in oil as you undid the filler cap, don't ask me how I know?
How was your oil level? was it right up? do you check it regularly as per instructions, weekly I recall.
The dipstick is on the new gearbox's, that's something I loved about the new machines, also I made an addition to my gearbox when doing the first oil change. I chucked a rare earth magnet on the end of the drain-plug. Those little suckers could suck golf balls down hose pipes (if the golf ball was metal ) so the aim is that any metal particle in the oil after shut down will be drawn down to the drain-plug, therefore keeping it out of the workings. I've got a heap of these little magnets if anyone is interested - missus does craft stuff and she bought 'em on ebay, the one I used fits just right on the end of the drain-plug and hangs on like #### to a blanket.
Carl, I'd be replacing your oil, chucking a rare earth magnet in there (not a normal one as they don't hold anywhere near as well and you'd just cause yaself more probs, then running her up to temp, let the magnet do it's work and dropping the oil out again, in the hopes of getting as much particle out as possible and reducing any wear as soon as you can, might buy you some more time with that gearboxI love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!

all sorted.
heat was caused by slipping belts.
i got some belts of Dudley at maleny and put them on last week.
they are to long.
i have tensioned them until its squashing the exhaust by 3mm and there still not tight. ill have to get another shorter set in town.
got the motor just about sorted now to. re did almost all the electrics. runs ok now. havina small fuel problem now night have picked up a bit of sludge when the tank ran dry the other day.
