    Default Huon Wood gloat

Heading over to Tasmania tomorrow to go to the veneer plant.

I purchased a few cranky Huon Pine logs to cut up.

This log was the smallest and lowest quality. My mate Chris who is a Huon expert with a good eye for Huon recommended this log to me. He though it would be a good investment and would of purchased it himself if he was not retired.

We are cutting it up for veneer flitches with the offcuts to be cut up as boards for boxes or panels - not to mention pen blanks as a last resort.

After we got it on the mill, the first job is align the heart shake.

We then trimmed the sides and top of the log so that the mill could pass through the log.

We then slowly take of 23mm boards off the top and flip the log over when we get to the right depth.

As you can see, lots of nice figure on the boards and it will produce some nice veneer slices.

Cut it up into blanks. Huon Pine is my favourite and I'm gonna need more as soon as I unstick my fingers from the CA.
