Default Husqvarna 372XP with an Alaskan mill? Opinions....

I have a guy who has a second hand Husky 372XP for sale. He's getting back with a price. He also has a 268, but I thought this might be a bit small for an Alaskan mill.

Does anyone have any suggestions for such a mill?

I wish to start small and see if I get into it before committing to further costs such as a Lucas.

They are good saws but biggest logs I would tackle with those saws is about 18" in diameter.

That would need a 24" and a 24" mill but the max cut you would get from that setup would be 18" which is about the limit for those saws

They wouldn't go astray and general cutting saws if and when you upgraded to a bigger saw/setup.

The first saw I ever milled with was an Oleo Mac 355, (definitely not recommended, 14" was seriously overtaxing the saw), next was a Husky 268, 14-16" was a good match for it.
As BobL said, 18-20" (species and moisture content dependent), should suit a 372 nicely. They are a very nice saw and arguably a better all rounder than a 395XP or 660 Stihl.
