HUSQVARNA 394xp ; new piston??
G'day Folks,
Wanted to post a few pics of the piston in my Husky 394xp. If no success through the forum, I'll force myself into the local repair shop for some advice. I've rebuilt a couple if saws before, but not this one.
A few months back while cutting firewood, the saw spluttered, then revved, then died. I checked all the usual suspects, and noticed that the electrode had snapped off the spark plug! First fears were that the electrode had fallen into the pot and scoured the piston/pot. Still has good spark with a new plug, and no obvious leaks (air or fuel). I pulled off the muffler hoping to find a small rattley electrode bouncing around; alas, nothing (perhaps it's already found its way out?)
With the muffler off, I gave the saw a shake but couldn't hear anything (ie. electrode) rattling around.
With a soft cloth I cleaned the piston through the muffler outlet, and noticed what looked like a single but very noticeable groove /scour from the rings down the length of the piston. I also stuck my little finger into the pot and could feel a rough lip around the top of the piston.
The photos I've included (hopefully) show the scour/groove on the piston, BUT also the uneven look at the top of the piston (4th pic). Would this mean a new pot as well as piston? Is it worth fixing (yes, I love this saw)? I've sourced some aftermarket pistons, etc, in the past and been very happy with them.
Apologies if the pics aren't up to scratch. Thanks in advance for any comments!
...thoughts? Opinions?

New Piston

You say the electrode is missing . Was it broken off or does it look like it has burnt off. Looking at the pics , it appears the piston has seized to the bore. Running too lean a mixture (carby settings) can cause not enough lube and also overheating .Also not running the correct oil ratio. You will need to remove the barrel and check the piston , rings , bore and crank bearings.
