Impulse tube
Back in 2012 I ran over my ms250 https://www.woodworkforums.com/showth...t=run+chainsaw
It never ran well after I had it apart to fix the handles, I haven't needed it since so I put it to one side (as you do) so a month or two back I got some parts and was in the process of having another look at it just days before the cyclone hit, with trees everywhere I thought it might be good to have the saw going, whilst looking at it I noticed one particular tube looked a bit dusty inside the end of it, that looks like it hasn't been hooked onto anything I thinks to myself, turns out to be the impulse tube that goes from the crankcase to the carby,

This is the carby side of the rear handle, the hole under the right side stud leads to the spigot which the impulse tube pushes onto, most likely I didn't push this tube back onto the spigot after I repaired the handle, with the saw all back together and a bit of a tune up it's running quite nicely and it looks like it will be getting a bit of a workout for a while yet.

That'll do it.
This is why a crankcase pressure test is worthwhile doing whenever saws are repaired and would have revealed this problem

Yes, it sure would have indicated a problem, I was going down the pressure test path but other events took over.
She's a goer now tho

Next door neighbour an I decided to trim the dividing hedge of Lilly Pilly a few weeks back.
Saw ran like a spluttering asthmatic. Turned out to be the same problem as above except the tube was split.
Easily fixed with some sheath from electrical wire!!!
