    Default Small issue with Chainsaw

    Went to clean the chainsaw last night and discovered this: near the sprocket, it's bulging out and the chain has rubbed on it enough to cut a hole through.

    It appears that something has hit the chain catcher, which has distorted the rest.

    Has anyone seen this happen before? I've had the saw for less than 6 months, I bought a case with it when I got it and it hasn't travelled outside of that case that I know of. I also don't believe I've dropped it at all.

    Default The Hole.

    Hi,
    Do you think your Chain may have been a bit to slack, causing it to wander.
    Other than that, I wood take it back to the Dealer, see what he thinks.

    There is a bulge there that might not be visible in the pics that gets in the way of the chain.

    I'll be taking it back as soon as I get time to scratch myself

    Ok, can't comment on bulge as I can't really see it but in regards to chain catcher, it doesn't look quite right to me, can't see any evidence of a catch on it but it looks too low to me, as if it has had a catch or someone was careless when assembling saw and bent it.

    What it looks like to me is that the chain has been run with loose bar and under tensioned chain allowing the chain to come off the bar on the inside of the bar which allowed the sides of the cutters to cut a slot in the cover. Eventually the side of slot got big enough for the cutter to hook in behind the slot and pull it out like that. All this could happen in about 1/1oth second so it could have happened fast than you would notice and have time to react..

    Thanks for the replies, I had it looked at this week and the tech couldn't work out what I've done either. He's bent the catcher back and ordered in a new piece.
