    Default Ive found my calling

Hi lads, been away for a while up at Cervantes building my mates new holiday house as im a qualified carpenter and roof plumber and can only say the place and the people are wonderful. But it also came to my attention the lack of trades people and the opportunities that arrise from it. So im setting up a new carpentry buisiness up there which means that all my sawmilling gear is going to be up for sale in about a month, kilns, bobcat, truck the works. So should there be any interested parties shoot me a pm.

    Cheers, Nifty

That's good and bad. Can't you keep both enterprises going as I would see them as compatible? Eg. Cut the timber and then build a house for those on bush blocks.

Or are these occupations mutually exclusive?

Alot of areas over here you now have to use treated timber in construction because of the Euro wood borer

I am told that sharpening handsaws is a dying art.... this must mean I am an artisan.

Get your handsaws sharpened properly to the highest possible standard, the only way they should be done, BY HAND, BY ME!!! I only accept perfection in any saw I sharpen.

There are already two here in the SW, timber treaters in Manjimup and koppers in Picton.

Well it seems i may have sold the kilns so thats one less headache. And hows this, Ive been approached by some of the local cray fishermen to see if im interested in cutting them material to make new pots out of so it looks like Woody might be getting a sea change too And ive been offered a nice big industrial shed to work out of too, all for a bit of timber every now and then

What happend to the retirement plan that had you cleaning up vineyards in a tracked bobcat?

Cervates hey, you will get sick of the wind soon enough, sheeting roofs up there would be a real joy in the warm months

Yeh i here you Burnsy. After some research into the venture it couldhave been hit and miss. Noone down here is spending money at the moment and wineries are notoriously slow payers. So I figured if you dont feel like cutting timber anymore, go create stuff out of timber again. My great grandfather always said, If you dont love your job, you dont love life

"Man cannot say, without arrogance, what he will or will not do."

Can't remember where that comes from. Certainly no relation and I've more than likely mis-quoted it too.

All the best for the future.

I'm thinking it may have been a little easier then. Not so great a chance of being caught out by the internet, credit cards or CCTV!
