Jarrah and Fiddlewood
Today, BobL and I sliced through some small logs with BobL's chainsaw mill. Most pieces were sawn 40mm thick. In the past I've cut wood too thin initially so opted for thicker slabs.
The jarrah was felled at least 18 months ago in a neighbour's yard. I asked for the trunk pieces, 1 at 1200mm and 2 at 1000mm long and all about 300mm diameter with bark. Any larger and I'd have trouble moving the pieces. Being a small suburban grown tree it had a few checks and a patch of rot but plenty of nicely grained wood to be used in a couple of years. I was surprised the jarrah was still so wet despite two summers under a tarp in the garden.
The fiddlewood was picked up from comgreserv after he felled the tree and offered it to readers of the forum for free. BobL and I picked some up about 4 or 5 weeks ago. I was not sure of the best way to convert fiddlewood to timber so kept three small logs whole and slabbed the larger log and some crotch pieces. The fiddlewood was interesting after slabbing. It had darkish heartwood and the grain was quite pretty. One of the crotch pieces had some interesting swirling grain.
I have the slabs stickered and weighted in total shade. The end grain is sealed with acrylic paint. Fingers crossed it dries without too much cracking and splitting.

Many thanks to BobL and comgreserv.

Good work. Some beautiful timber.
Be nice to have jarrah laying around, but then, can't complain too much.
