Logs logs logs
Have I ever told you all how much I love wood? I love to mill wood. I love to work with wood. I love to smell wood. Except for the splinters I would bath in wood!
Well it just keeps finding me. The pile of logs is getting out of hand. And Ive got a 900mm diam. Liquid amber coming next week. This pile is the lot that have built up over 2 years and that's not even half of my stash. The 4 on top are local sheaoak A bit ratty but I'll get a bit of nice stuff out of them (with a potential for one to come of 1m dia).

For a number of reasons they just don't seem to get done fast enough and what I was wondering is whether there's some woodies who would like a holiday down south give me and my lucas a hand? I work so much better with someone along side me. Funny that.
I managed to get one of mine milled the other day (a Local wattle). Which is quite nice really. Not as pink as previously experienced. When my uncle brought some red gum to mill. (uncle rates)

Then I also milled some red gum for uncle into make believe sleepers 200 x 60. I got a few pieces; as you do.

More red gum tomorrow and hopefully one of mine.Tim. A man of measurable mess.

Why do you call 200 x 60 a sleeper and I also see Bunnings also state the same for 200 x 50 pine ? To me a sleeper is at least 100mm thick and of a hardwood.

Yes. I agree. Totally unsuitable as sleepers. If you'd like to pop them on a truck and ship them to me, I'll hide them from the world and tell no-one that they were supposed to be sleepers!!!!

Wow
I can't believe no-one has accepted your offer of a milling holiday. I wish we had someone in WA who offered such activities, I would jump at it, assuming I had enough leave, that the Mrs would let me, But you get the idea.
Cheers
Willy

If I do make it back your way for the TurnSA thingy I might be able to give you a hand again, just depends on the shoulder, although I'd be happy to order you around if it helps

Uncle dragged 3 bigger than railway track (about 350 x 150 x2.4m) he cut out of a log back in '75. He got some and I got some. As expected very hard. Happiness all 'round.Tim. A man of measurable mess.

They are beautiful. I'm glad I'm not the only who digs the scent of freshly cut timber. I've only recently ventured into milling and only have done Cyprus pine so far. I can imagine working out in the bush would be far better though
