    Default I love the Lucas

Just spent a bit of the day up at Mt Tambourine milling up a few logs with Sigidi - what a blast

I'm bloody hooked - not that I thought I wasn't to start with but I loved it.

Remember those days when you worked with your old man and there was that smell of the freshly hewn timber. The smell of the sawdust at the butchers!

My personal thanks to Alan for all his unreserved info and advice, and his friends/acquaintances A whole heap of stuff flooded back and even more was learned.

OK Mr Lucas - get me one of them thar 10-30's up here so we can have some fun. You need the sales, I need the finance and the world needs to stop wasting the timber. Had a smoke sitting on a hollow bloodwood log today - and now I know why it's called bloodwood - the sap looks like you are bleeding!! Declared firewood - Reckon there's got to be a bowl blank or 2 in that as shabby as it was - and they wanted to sell it as fern pot holders.

    Gotta get me a Lucas.

Justa quickly reply (puter playing up) will give in-depth post soon.
If I could get my pics off the phone, I'd happily share.

Reiner, will no doubt be posting some pics soon. I was too busy talking (I mean milling ) and didn't take many pics.

    Default Reiner's place

Hey good to meet you on Friday Barnsey, thanks for the help while you where there. (making sawdust is addictive, isn't it?)

Pic 1 and 2 is the view from waking up at Reiner's on the second morning, a bit of light low cloud cover slowly being burnt off by the morning sun. In the distance Reiner pointed out Mt. Warning down in NSW and off pic, to the left, we could see the high rises of the Gold Coast.

I woke up in a compact hand made palace Pic 6 is the inside and pic 5 is the kitchen/storage compartment. You wouldn't think it, but it's a Queen size bed!! All the conveniences, 3 burner gas stove, sink with on board water tank and electric pump,12v power outlets, dvd player, radio, you name it!! These little guys are terrific!! Everything I needed

Well after a bit of playing, a bit more talking!! I eventually did some work! (me talk - can you believe that Carl?) Pic 3 is the site with Reiners salvaged logs all shaking in their bark. When Reiner bought the place, the previous owner had done a great job of making a pile of 'rubbish' greenwaste, Reiner didn't want to just dump it, so he picked through what he thought was useful, kept it and we began the first steps along the journey that will be a retreat for both Reiner and his wonderful partner Samatha. (Thanks for the terrific Spaghetti Sam) Pic 4 is me almost ready to do some cutting...

I'm sure more pics are forthcoming from Reiner and I will post an update as soon as they arrive.

An absolutely fabulous experience, Reiner and Samantha made it such a terrific 'job' if I can use that word very loosely

Thanks again Reiner and Sam, look forward to being back and finishing off that pile.

Oh Carl, the Bloodwood is the second log end you can see from the left in pic 3 she was about 8m long and 2' in dia. Would give a good trailer and ute load of splits, I think Reiner is looking to make it into firewood??

would you be able to cut it into splits for me?

when will you be going back?

ask him if i can take it for splits please.

if you cant cut it ill come down and cut it if its alright with him.

just did a quick calculation i should be able to get at least 50 posts out of it. plus what is backed off it looks like its got a fair amount of meat.

I'm sure Reiner would be happy for it to be used for something, drop him a PM his forum username is 'Reiner'

I'm cutting at home this coming week, then the plan is to be up the mountain the week after.

I'm not good at making splits, you might not be able to sell/use 'em if i cut em??? I've only cut about 50-100
