Hi Josh, I think you will find one in that price range, not sure about the low hours but I don't think a few more hours on a machine would matter, they do go well, not heard of any problems with the engines, my 6-18 is 16 years old and still goes well. good luck

Hi jonnyroberts
Wooha 16 years they must be good machines
Found a lucas mill on ebay yesterday for $10,000.00
Lucas mobile timber mill | eBay
Lucas Mobile timber mill. 9" blade. Reconditioned swing arm, 6mtr. rails plus extensions, slabbing attachment and spare blades. Operates really well. Pick up only from Sth. Gippsland.
Looks old but can not tell much form the photo.
Asked the seller a few questions but never realy got the answers i was looking for
"What model is it ? How many hours on it ? and any damage "
They replied
"It is a 1994 model, Not sure of the hours, Serial number #8-298-***and no damage"
Is there anyway u can tell the model from the serial number (eg 6-18, 8-27) ?
Ill try and ring them again later today or tommorrow, There is still 6 days left.

The serial number should show the size and year, I would say that is a 8 inch made in 98. they did use some different engines over time, Lucas will tell you what size engine it was. Recon swing arm may mean the gas strut was replaced, common fault as the strut sits near the exhaust. Easy and cheap to fix and does not happen often. Cosmetics mean nothing to me. That one probaly has electric start. They should start easy. If they are left outside with no cover, they can fill with water and wreck the head. Are you able to get there and have a listen or get someone to do it for you. I would want a demo before buying. Looks okay to me for price if it goes well.
regards John

Hi Forum
Thankyou to “Peterson Mill” and “Timberking” for contacting me.
All the information and prices on portable sawmills is very interesting.
I did not realise there was so many different types of sawmills out there.
The problem is that i only want to spend up to $15,000.00 not $20,000.00 plus.
I havent seen any of these second hand machines about.
If i had more money avaible or wanted to go contract sawmilling sure would take them into great consderation.
Spoke to the person on ebay about that lucas mill
From what i can understand it has done a lot of work and is a smaller older model.
Not so intrested on that one any more, maybe im asking too much.
Still looking day by day, does any think i will still get one?

Yep fair call if it's done a bit of work it might be too expensive. I'm sure one will turn up. The other brand mills don't seem to come up very often, I do not think that there is that many about where as Lucas Mills are everywhere, where I live there are 5 Lucas mills, our population is only 600. I think they only get sold so we can upgrade to a newer bigger one Like I intend to do at some stage. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure other brand mills are as good or even better that Lucas, but I've not had anything to do with them so I can't say. Be interested to see if that one sells on e-bay, I'm watching it.
regards John
