Charlsie, I have a forklift, but I regularly use a mate's excavator with a log-grab doing clearances and the like and I use it in the yard when I can. For clearing sawdust, placing logs in the mill, working on the soft ground I have here, it's fantastic. I wish I had one of my own...
Cheers,
Craig

my wish is to have a bobcat A300 with plenty of attachments. i used one in canada for 6 months, its fantastic. you should check it out at their site, its not your average skidsteer, it articulating steer and skid steer, plus we ended up buying some attachments from skidsteersolutions which are awesome. check their site out too.

Excavators and bobcats are very handy for moving logs but over rated for small scale milling in my opinion, not worth the money, I sold my bobcat several years ago and It is not missed. I am able to move most logs by hi-lift jack and an adjustable cant hook, I also use a winch trailer for salvage work. Don't forget Lucas Mills are portable

john for small milling jobs the bobcat is over rated and it is easier just to roll the small logs in. but on the odd occasion when a nice person has a 30 tonne excavator on site and wants to get rid of a log that might weigh 6 or 7 tonne the bobcat or forklift does come in handy and getting stuff off the truck they're a dead set bonus i had to use the bobby to roll this one in. the young bloke in the pic is a mates son who doesn't mind jumping in and out of the machine and some slabs in the past have weighed in at around the 350 to 400 kg mark and i cant lift them anyway. this is all done with a lucas so it's still small scale milling if you could call it that regards charlsie

Where does it end?
All timber junkies have a wish list. A kiln, a bobcat, a resaw, a foursider, four offsiders and an endless supply of logs and buyers, well there is mine anyway. I can alost bet that in our old age we wished we had something to move logs and timber around coz the back aint feelin so good. Well I bit the bullet and bought a big bobcat and looking back dont know how I did without it. It has paid for itself in a year and I can barely remember my chiropractors name .As you get older a 6x2 gets heavier so when the chance comes to use auxillary machines comes along, take itNot to mention the fact that you can cut more in a day.
