Beautiful bass. Can't say I've ever seen a bass or guitar with a mango top, and I've been playing guitar for... a "few" years... and have owned many small-builder/boutique builds. Thanks for sharing. Do you have a link to your website with other builds?

    Hi mapleman,

The finish is colourite lacquer I believe. The black stain was feast watson black japan stain that was left over from a friends table I stained. The lacquer was also left over from a job and it had a touch of white in it. Dad says that the touch of white stops it from yellowing over the years. Beyond that I'm not sure what exact lacquer it is.

And Donnerparty, This is my technically my "first" build. While I've made guitars and parts over the years I have lacked the discipline to actually create something worth showing. After honing my skills recently on a number of smaller jobs I decided that I would get back into guitar building and commit to it. So far I've enjoyed the journey. Next up I'm making a P bass for myself. Stay tuned for that.

Well, congrats on your first "official" build! Nice work!

Not Mango, but a couple of small slabs, one of Tallowwood and the other Forest Redgum, obtained from Mapleman two or three years back. I had wondered what to do with them and then remembered I had bought some clock and weather bits.

I wanted a clock in the shed as I don't wear a watch (nor rings, piercings etc) and while I was doing this I made a similar concept for SWMBO's studio. Her clock is much nicer to my mind, but initially, as she was given the choice in a "stocking filler" for Xmas, she preferred the Forest red gum, which was surprising as she is not a red timber person.

However I engineered it so she got the tallowwood .

She has a very smart studio while I have an extremely agricultural shed.

I remember some of the Tallowwood slabs that you purchased Paul
Some had sweeping fiddleback by memory
One of the prettiest timbers getting around is the ol' Tallowwood
The color and figure can at times be breathtaking
    Too good for fence posts
Thanks for sharing the pics Bushmiller...MM
