MM, being new at this, I have to ask how you are milling these smaller pieces.
I mean on a Lucas ?, small band saw ? How are you holding them in place to cut?
Sorry if I didn't get something obvious. I am new to this and have a Lucas.
Oh, yea....some of the prettiest wood I've ever seen!

They look as though they are impressive. I say "look as though" because the pix are out of focus and it is difficult to see the detail. I saw the mango when I picked up some timber from MM. I know it is spectacular.
Any chance of some more pix, which are sharper?

I'll have another go in daylight. I am afraid I am very much a point and press photographer and using the ipad inbuilt camera. So probably not optimum.

The worlds worst photographer has another go. The last two pens sold at a club outing on the weekend so these are the latest. They look better in real life. Might just keep the Polaris pencil.

While they are not up to FenceFurniture photographic standard (and I sympathise here. I also have some good news that you are probably the second worst photographer as I take first place ) I can see what great job you have done.
I think it will show woodworkers on the forum how much figure there is, that even an object the size of a pen can display such character.
Excellent job.

Thanks Paul, the bottom line is this timber is producing the most beautiful pens. A lot of variety from straight grain to completely random structure. Lovely.

Hi Frank..alot of the smaller sections are secured with nails and wedges...the blades kept sharp, and doing each cutting pass in small increments seems to work for me,particularly when milling through fiddleback grain..i improvise quite a bit with the lucas, but have been using them for a while now..they are a great machine
