    Smile New Mill

Hi Guys , finally started building my new swing mill , no pic's yet , not much to see anyway at the moment , it will be able to cut down the side of a log as well , up to 40 inch's down the side of a log at 10 inch increments , it will be a 10 inch mill useing a 10" Lucas blade , I will be using a deisel engine aprox 24hp , aluminium pulleys for wheels , steel angle for runners , 6x2 galv rhs for beams , it will have to be a trailer mill , it is going to weigh in at about 750-1000kg . Here is a couple of pic's of my new log shifter , it is able to lift up to 3.5t , the log on the back of my truck is over five foot accross and 3m long . Cheers MM

Just an observation, will the frame that carries the engine be counter weighted or be running its rollers in captivated runners to stop the engine frame tipping when the engine is beyond the axis of the outer rollers ??
    regards inter

I dont think I will need any couterweights , the cradle and all the gear hanging off of it are real heavy , I will try and post some pics of the cradle tommorow, the cradle takes two blokes to lift without the swing saw section attached and the deisel motor is very compact , the motor is a two cylinder air cooled ducatti , they used to use these motors in fishing boats . Cheers MM

By the looks of the quality of construction it would be within your ability to work out the centroid & add mass if required.

Hope so inter , I still have a number of things to work out yet , the bed will be 8.om x aprox 1.450m big enough to handle a 40inch log , 43 inch max between the trolly legs , anything bigger around 5'6" i will be able to cut on the outside , alongside the mill , this is yet to be worked out properly , just the minor details , along with the chain lifting etc .
