Finally got started on my stash of Tallowwood (Eucalyptus microcorys) today..pieces shown were millied from a butt log(had a small pipe) around 80cm D.B.H..very figurative on the quarter ,with stunning golden hues...too good for fence posts i reckon ..will post more pics tomorrow..MM

I know nothing about building a bench in tallow . . . much.

My bench is of 6*4 lengths for the top and 4*4 for the legs and stretchers.

Much brighter and more figured Tallow, you have there MM. Definitely too good for fence posts!

Fence posts? Have a chat to a window manufacturer, they love it for sills.

I find the window guys down here cant get enough of the stuff. In fact, they are flat out getting any at all. Most of them are using jarrah or blue gum.
Tallow sills and the window goes up a notch in quality.

Wow. That's of interest. Would it be the best timber for windows in our southerly climes?

The reason for my asking, is that I will be building soon, and I would prefer something that would last longer before any substantial maintenance would be required.

Here's some boards that i milled today...had to flitch log, then break flitches down into 100mm x 25mm..the tree was dead standing, and given the firmness of the wood,i reckon it was hit by lightning..slowed the process down abit, but the end result was a win..MM
