Milling some old fence posts?
Hi all,
I have 8 old farm fence posts that I am trying to get cut into planks about 25mm thick for a project. They range from 100 - 150mm diameter, but are all kinds of different shapes. I super keen to try and figure out a way to get it done. I cut small amount with the handsaw (arm numbing stuff) and the timber inside is quite beautiful, and the outer edges have great character.
Anyone have any ideas on how to achieve this? I don't have a large bandsaw/resaw, and the timber mills nearby (Brisbane) have told me they wont touch any old logs or wood, they will only cut new timber.
Edit: Just spoke to weisyboy, he suggested for the size and shape of the posts that someone with a chainsaw slabber would be ticket. I'm in Carina if anyone is interested!

I'd be using a conventional band saw for something that small

Muscat, will you guarantee the 'logs' are free of metal, stone and blade damaging material?
If that is the case and you could to bring them to me (just over Pine Rivers bridge near North Lakes) I can slice 'em for ya, it'd be a slow process and needs to be done nice and steady so the logs dont get thrown by the blade. but it can be done if you wantI love my Lucas!! ...just ask me!
Allan.

Thanks for the offer! Guaranteeing there is no metal is my next step now. I cant see anything from a visual inspection, but I need to track down a metal detector or something to be totally sure. I wouldn't think there would be anything in there, but I couldn't guarantee it just yet
