Red face Small milling is fun too

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWuTw49fXd8

Sometimes, big timber is just not what the customer ordered. Had a few chunks of Southern Red Oak{Quercus falcata} that has some fairly nice spalting and a lot of mineral staining...
So I improvised a 'jig' for the WoodMizer LT10. What better time to try out the 'chest harness' for the GoPro(it's weird, and will take some getting used to). I figure it has to be safer then trying to hand hold the small camera while milling!

I'll definitely be posting more milling video in the future now that I have a way to do it! Enjoy, comments always welcome!

I will run my lucasmill later this week in the backyard for a few hrs. The petrol engine runs very quietly and not much blade noise generated either. Suburban setting so I talk to the closer neighbors first to find a suitable time, usually thru middle of the day.

I run the mill on a large tarpaulin so I can tidy the sawdust and leave minimal evidence of the alleged activity.

Reckon I'm lucky to have good neighbors. I also have a bandsaw mill but it is way too noisy and too bulky to pack away. It sits here waiting till i find a suitable site out of town to set it up.

    merry Xmas

    Thumbs up

    Interesting Video Scott.

I like the look of the timber you cut, It would make for nice boxes.

I take it that is your house backyard?

Yes, this is my backyard....as I'm set up as a 'hobby sawyer', I don't run into troubles that a business probably would. I certainly don't run the mill all the time, just when I need some logs trimmed or a few chunks for someone.

The LT-10 may have the upgraded engine, but even still a 10HP B&S is actually quieter then a riding mower(the mower I has an 18HP Kohler). So I can run it during daylight hours without any problems(the actual hours I can make 'noise' is from 6am to 9pm-but I'm not milling in the dark).

I did have one visit from Code Enforcement, but when I knew the Code better then they did....well the visit was very short. Tails tucked, Code left.....
