    Default Milling near Melbourne

I am a woodworking enthusiast and have have a few trees I am thinking of milling. Wanting dimensionally sawn timber.

    2 x 40m Douglas Fir

    2 x 30m Cypress

    1 x 20m White Oak

Does the forum think this is worthwhile considering I have limited knowledge of milling, drying and storage? Any suggestions on how to proceed appreciated.

    cheers

    Gday Dave

Those species are not hard to saw and dry D/fir and Cyp as I have had experience with them for over 16yrs and they would be redy to use within 2 to 3 months but seeing as whe are coming into winter again it may take alittle longer depending where you stck and sticker it and whet the weathers is like Mate

White oak being a hard wood i would allow a good 18 months to 2 years to get it to a point where i would be happy it was dry enough for furniture making those times all vary on the section size tot the thicker they are the longer you have to wait

Depending on the trees for you should get some good timber out of it for your own projects what dia are they roughly and what sort of form do they have strait with few large limbs or rough with heavy limbs ? and I take it they are still standing are you getting a tree lopper to remove them or are they out in the open and easy falling ? do you have an pics of them ?

I would be interested in doing it where about are the trees located ? I have a 10-30 Lucas with slabber, planer and just about everything else whats your target size as big and wide as you can get them in 10x2" or 250x50mm something like that I charge $88 an hour too Mate

    Regards Chris
