You could try Marshalls Timber yard at Cardiff, what used to be Wes Hughes at Glendale (does it still exist?) or H & D (Home timber) at Heatherbrae. Otherwise try a joinery in your local area. Not many people like milling someone else's timber due to possible hidden objects like nails and the deal is usually that you will be up for the cost of replacement or sharpening. Probably easier to buy a cheap Ozita thicknesser from Bunnings and do it yourself. I doubt you'll find a place that will touch second hand timber.

Doubt anyone will touch them till you remove the paint, paint takes the edges of planer blade quicksmart. Best thing is to remove the paint with a electric hand plane as carbide blades are cheap to replace on those.

For me, if you where prepared to drop them off and pick them up, plus pay for any replacement blades, I'd run 'em through my thicknesser for a carton....

They are old roof rafters from a wool store and have no nails in them and are painted in old lime based paint on 3 sides. Cheers Woody

Hi Woody, first thing is to test to see if its Lead paint, or you will poison yourself and others quickly, then borrow a metal detector and search for time bombs in the wood, all the other info above is good, and you could also hire a large belt sander to clean them up,

You've got the perfect reason to start buying your own machinery cause by the sounds of it you will be needing them instead of paying someone each time to have something cut/dressed for you.
