Carl, some info here http://www.allbandsawblades.com/blade_width.htm
As a general rule you need about 7 times the wheel radius to the blade width so a 2" blade will require 14" radius or 28" diameter wheels.

hmm.
i have 1 1/2" x 1.1tpi blades on my 16" shop saw and it seams to cut pretty good. no pushing when cutting 220mm hardwood. but it dose kill the motor.
i will have to work out what size blade i would need to run to get satisfactory results then work out the wheel diamiter.

carl
I have found with the development of our bandsaw that its best to have a variable speed depending on the tpi and the kerf of the blade.
Can supply you the wheels and shafts if needed. They take about three weeks to get cast and machined and use a 50mm band. I have found that the cheaper steel tip blades need to run faster than the tungsten tip blades which is a real pain when using a petrol engine.
If your in a workshop you can have a variable speed controller on a good electric.
what are you using for the timber guides??? most important!!!

Horizontal bandsaws
I have been off line for a few days and only noticed your post this morning. I hava a small horizontal mill for my Paulownia. It was professionally made but is now now longer in production. It works well and is easy to use. All the components are readily purchased except for the 2 case hardened blade guides. If you are interested you could vist my place and have a look at it and take photos. I live about 2 hours south of the Brisbane GPO. Let me know if you are interested
